Tournemire is noted for composing L’ Orgue Mystique- an musical anthology for organists which covers the Church Year based on gregorian themes and paraphrase.
Other organ compositions of note include: Triple Choral, Three Poems, Sei Fioretti, Seven Chorals on the Last Words of Christ.
He also wrote numerous piano, chamber music and eight symphonies (of which Nos. 3 and 8 can be listened to at the Naxos-website, completely!).
Tournemire was one of the last pupils of César Franck. He was organist of the basilica of Sainte-Clothilde from 1898 until his death in 1939. His pupils include Maurice Duruflé and Jean Langlais.
