Chan Ka Nin is Canadian composer, laureate of the “Voya Toncitch Prize” International Piano Composition Contest in Paris (1987).
His work entitled “Majestic Flair” was premiered in Malta, at the Manoel Theatre at Valletta on November 23rd, 1987 by Mr. Toncitch. The music critic, Mrs. Rosa Micaleff-Judge wrote in The Sunday Times: “Majestic Flair by Chan Ka Nin had an oriental texture and Toncitch captured the quartertones through the use of pedals. There was much intensity in this work which Toncitch conveyed in a masterly way.” The music critic of the weekly magazine The Saturday Chronicle, who signs Artisticus, stated: “Chan Ka Nin’s Majestic Flair is lighthearted at moments, aping oriental Chinese music in parts and giving a wide range of chromatic effects.” Later Mr. Toncitch recorded Chan Ka Nin’s work in Germany for Radio Bremen and in the Netherlands, in Hilversum for the Broadcasting Company NCRV, and played it on recital in Singapore.
