American composer Alan Bern has received the Weimar Prize for 2016. Bern has lived and worked in Berlin since 1987. Since 1999 his activities are more concentrated in Weimar.

Bern is artistic director of the Yiddish Summer as well as the Other Music Academy (OMA). He receives the Weimar Prize as a recognition for his work on the promotion of world music, and specifically Yiddish musik.
