Klaus Miehling’s work list contains presently (July 2013) 210 compositions, vocal and instrumental, for historical as well as for modern instruments.
In 2002 he was a finalist in the international choral composition competition of the city of Harelbeke, Belgium, in 2008 in the composition competition of the Comunità Evangelica Luterana di Napoli. In 2009 his song Endymion op. 150/7 received the Longfellow Chorus Award of Distinction 2008/09 (Portland/Maine, USA). In 2010 he won the 3d prize in the composition competition Einheit durch Vielfalt - Kirche macht Musik of the Deutscher Musikrat. In 2012 at the composition contest of Corale Monteverdi Cles (Italy) the Lectio Domenicae Secundae Adventus op. 193/2 obtained a recommendation as only work in the category mixed choir and organ, where no prizes were awarded.
Miehlings works have been published by the Goldbach-Verlag St. Ingbert, the Tonger-Verlag Köln, the Moeck-Verlag Celle, www.epubli.de and www.musicalion.com. Most of his compositions with recorders are available at the Flautando Manuskriptearchiv.
Klaus Miehling was born in 1963 and received a diploma in early music (harpsichord) in 1988 from the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis. In 1993 he earned his doctorate in musicology, art history and historical paramedical sciences from the University of Freiburg. He is the author of Das Tempo in der Musik von Barock und Vorklassik (Wilhelmshaven 1993, 3. edition 2003), Handbuch der frühneuenglischen Aussprache für Musiker (Hildesheim 2002) and Gewaltmusik - Musikgewalt (Würzburg 2006 - abridged and updated as Gewaltmusik. Populäre Musik und Werteverfall and Lautsprecher aus! Zwangsbeschallung contra akustische Selbstbestimmung, Berlin 2010) as well as of numerous essays mostly on historical performance practice. Klaus Miehling lives as a freelance musician and musicologist in Freiburg/Germany.
