Chamber music, e.g. 6 nocturnes (viola and piano).
Kalliwoda wrote 3 Morceau de salon, op. 228 for oboe, op. 229 for clarinet, and op. 230 for bassoon. He also wrote 450 studies. At the court of Donaueschingen he was teaching the princes children music. He was friend with Franz Liszt, and Robert and Clara Schumann. He invited them to Karl Egon the II’s court to play music. Karl Egon was the prince in whose court Kalliwoda was at service.(contribution by <melib81@yahoo.com>)
Dr. Joachim Fischer <Dr.Joachim.Fischer@t-online.de> would like to learn more about life and work of Kalliwoda.
Gwen Thomas <gwen@oote.demon.co.uk> writes:
The little I have is from a preface to his Morceau de Salon (Op. 288)[!] for
Oboe and Piano, published by Nova Music, UK, edited by Robin Canter.:
"Johannes Wenceslaus Kalliwoda was born in Prague in 1801 and died in Karlsruhe
in 1866. He was a violin virtuoso who for more than thirty years held the post
of Kapellmeister at the court of Donaueschingen. His seven symphonies,
concertos (including on for oboe), operas and numerous chamber works were at
one time frequently performed."
If you find out any more I’d be very interested to hear about him (and any
other 19th century composers for the oboe.).
