(Contribution by jan vavra <janvavra@tiscali.cz>.)
In 1791 Koželuh went to Vienna, where shortly gained such a respect as a pianist, composer and music pedagogue that he was so bold as to refuse to succeed W.A. Mozart in his post of organist to the Salzburg Archbishop. In 1791 he scored a tremendous success with his cantata commissioned by Czech estates for Leopold II’s coronation as King of Bohemia, and, in the following year he received the title “Kammer Kappelmeister und Hofmusik Compositor” at the court of Emperor Franz II and held it for a good 26 years until his death.
