Biography: 

Persuaded Nadia Boulanger to take him as a correspondence student when he was in his teens. Studied later with Vittorio Gianini and Vincent Persichetti. Spent one summer working with Darius Milhaud and is clearly influenced by Gian-Carlo Menotti.
