Koussevitzky studied double bass and music theory at the St. Petersburg conservatory. In 1920 he went to Paris, where he met many famous composers, and in 1924 he left for the United States.
In 1922 Koussevitzky asked Maurice Ravel to orchestrate Mussorgski’s piano composition Pictures at an Exhibition.
