Formal musical studies in composition and theory were done at California Institute of the Arts, Dominican College, San Francisco State University, and San Francisco Conservatory of Music. His teachers have been Morton Subotnick, Earle Brown, Jules Langert, Leonard Stein and William Hibbard.

Ron lives and writes music in the Mojave desert in his solar powered home and recording studio, in great solitude. He is also a seasoned flamenco guitarist and cantaor and has wandered through Spain and the gypsy world in pursuit of this art form.

His compositional career has taken Ron and his work to such places as Holland, Germany France, New York and across the United States and Canada. He has been recognized in many genres including electronic, symphonic, choral, opera and chamber music. Other performances, honors and commissions include Carnegie Hall, the San Francisco Opera Center, the Kronos Quartet, Yaddo, Soundprints Records, Meet the Composer, the Gregg Smith Singers, National Public Radio, Artist Trust, New Music America and many others.
