Buxtehude wrote especially organ music: twenty Praeludium (Preludes and Fugues/Fugal works), Canzoni, Fantasias, Choral-Preludes and Variations on Chorales; 19 Suites and harpsichord pieces. He also wrote also chamber music (two books of Sonatas for violin, viola da gamba and cembalo published on 1969), 116 cantatas, and mottetti.

Danish composer and organist, Dietrich Buxtehude probably studied with his father, Johann Buxtehude. He was organist at the S. Maria church in Lübeck, Germany. Admired by Johann Sebastian Bach, Buxtehude was together with Sweelinck the greater exponent of the German organ school of the north.

Trio Sonatas and Sonatas
I do not understand your distinction between the "Trio Sonatas" and the "Sonatas". All the Sonatas BuxWV 252 to 257 are entitled "Sonatas a doi" (i.e. " a due" in correct Italian ; see the published facsimile scores of the op. 1 and of the op. 2) and were published as the opus 1, and the Sonatas BuxWV 258 to 265 were published as the opus 2. The Sonatas BuxWV 267, 268, 272 and 273 are of the same instrumentation : a violin, a viola da gamba AND a continuo (i.e normally only a cembalo). Some recordings (not in your list of recordings !) exist in addition with a violoncello or a second viola da gamba or even a violoncello and a "violone" for a sounded continuo. Are really all these "Sonatas" true "Trio Sonatas" which are all scored for 4 musicians ?
