Film composer Jarre dies in L.A.

The famous French film music composer Maurice Jarre has died of cancer on 29 March.

After an initial study of engineering, Maurice Jarre studied at the Paris Conservatory. In 1952 he was asked by Georges Franju to write the score for the film Hôtel des invalides, after which he almost exclusively wrote for film.

Maurice Jarre moved to Los Angeles after the big success of his score for Lawrence of Arabia (1962). There he has lived for the rest of his life. He will be cremated in Los Angeles on 31 March.
