20th century classical electronic music; Uses Simon,™ Super Simon,™ Merlin,™ Remco's Sound FX Machine,™ toy ray guns, and other sound-making toys from the early 1980's. With roots in Musique concrète, only a small amount of reverberation was used, and all other effects were achieved through tape manipulation. The title alludes to the "Toy Symphony" (full title: "Cassation in G major for toys, 2 oboes, 2 horns, strings and continuo"), lately attributed to Leopold Mozart.
"'Clever' is the word for Andrew Gelt's Electronic Toy Symphony, a tongue-in-cheek conjuration of sounds produced by cheap [audio] toys, subtitled 'Batteries Not Included.' It is also a take-off on Leopold Mozart's indelible Toy Symphony long attributed to Haydn." -- Miami Herald, 5 November 1983
