Not much is known about the early life of composer and music publisher Tylman Susato. His name (Susato) seems to suggest he was born in Soest, Germany. He may also have been born in Antwerp, Belgium, into a family from Soest. He was a professional music copyist and gained the right to be a music printer in Atwerp on 20 July 1543.
