Death of Aldo Clementi (86)

On 3 March the Italian composer Aldo Clementi died, aged 86.

In 1952 Clementi became a pupil of Petrassi in Rome, where he also graduated in 1954. From 1955 till 1962 he was at the Ferienkurse of Darmstadt. He met Bruno Maderna in the fifties, which started a relationship “of much importance.”

Equally crucial for his carreer was the experience the “Studio di Fonologia Musicale della Radiotelevisione Italiana di Milano”, where he created works like "Collage 2" (1960), "Collage 3 (Dies Irae)" (1967) and "Collage 4 (Jesu , meine Freude)" (1979).

In the early sixties of the 20th century he was one of the founders of the Roman “Nuova Consonanza”, togehter with Mauro Bortolotti, Franco Evangelisti, Guaccero Domenico and Francesco Pennisi.

In 2006 he was appointed honorary president of the Istituto Superiore di Studi Musicali "Vincenzo Bellini" in Catania.
