Ramírez, composer of Misa Criolla, passes away

Ariel Ramírez, composer and pianist, died last Thursday in Buenos Aires, 88 years old. He had been suffering from neurological problems.

His fame is mainly due to his Misa Criolla, composed in 1964. A recording of this mass with tenor José Carreras sold millions of copies. Besides this mass, he also wrote many other compositions.

He will be buried on Saturday, February 27th, at Chacarita Cemetery in the mausoleum of the Argentine Society of Authors and Composers. Ramírez was president of the society for five consecutive terms.
