In a library in the French city of Nantes an unknown piece of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was discovered. The piece of paper clearly is in Mozart's handwriting. It contains a sketch of an unknown melody. Harmony and instrumentation are missing.

The type of paper, as well as other clues, suggest Mozart did not write it before 1787. It is a melody that is not used in any of Mozart's known compositions.

An autograph collector in the 19th century has bequeathed the piece to the library. It was cataloged, but then forgotten about.
