Unsuk Chin wins Sibelius Prize
Chin Un-suk is the 20th winner of the Sibelius Prize. She is also the first Asian to win the prestigious award. The prize carries a cash award of €150,000 (almost $180,000).
The Sibelius Prize was established in 1953 by the Finland-based Wihuri Foundation, and was named after its first winner.
During the awards ceremony, held at Finlandia Hall in Helsinki, Finland, on Monday, Chin’s song cycle “snagS&Snarls” was performed by soprano Helena Juntunen and the Avanti! Chamber Orchestra conducted by Hann Lintu.
