The Hungarian composer György Kurtág will receive the 2014 BBVA Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge Award in the category of contemporary music. The BBVA Foundation is located in Madrid, Spain.

The jury states that he receives the prize for his music's “rare expressive intensity." It also says that "the novel dimension of his music lies not in the material he uses but in its spirit, the authenticity of its language, and the way it crosses borders between spontaneity and reflection, between formalism and expression.” It is the seventh time this prize is awarded, and it consist of €400,000 prize money, a diploma and a commemorative artwork.
