MusicAtlas: Aachen

The Schola Palatina, established by Charlemagne at the end of the 6th century followed the papal example and can be considered the cradle of Central European art music; the contours of its premises are marked in the pavement around the Dom.

The waters of Aachen spas wrote also music history: Händel found recovery (see here and here), the promising Norbert Burgmüller drowned here at the age of 26).
