Composer reference:

German composer Moritz Eggert has composed the music for the opening ceremony of the 2006 Soccer World Cup, to be held in Germany. The opening game is on June 9, and the ceremony before it starts at 4:28 p.m. (German, or CET). The game then starts at 6 p.m. Eggert has composed all of the incidental music for the ceremony (not the pop songs), which lasts around 25 minutes. The details are still kept secret, but the recordings involved a total of 750 musicians, among them several orchestras, a choir, bavarian brass bands and 300 percussionists — several of them will also perform live. The show is directed by Christian Stueckl (who is famous for the Oberammergauer Festspiele), and there will also be 1000 extras who will perform on the field. [source: Moritz Eggert]
