German-born Jewish composer Samuel Adler, who fled to America with his parents in 1938, has been awarded the German Bundesverdienstkreuz.

Adler, who was born in Mannheim, received the honorary medal in New York. On June 24, the Jewish community of Mannheim, Germany, will honor Adler with a concert in which his best-know compositions will be performed.
