Lost Holst manuscripts found in New Zealand

Wednesday, July 19, 2017 - 10:59
Composer reference:
Gustav Holst
Gustav Theodore Holst

The original hand-written manuscripts of two compositions by Gustav Holst were rediscovered in Tauranga, New Zealand. They were found in the archives of the Bay of Plenty Symphonia.

The Folk Songs from Somerset were probably performed only once, in Bath, England, in 1906. The Two Songs Without Words are performed more regularly. It is thought that the manuscripts ended op in New Zealand via English flautist Stanley Farnsworth who conducted a predecessor of the Bay of Plenty Symphonia in the 1960s.
