Composer reference:
In 1923 Edward Elgar composed a piece for the Carillon Tower in Queen’s Park, Loughborough, which was built as a memorial to the fallen in the first world war. The original manuscript of that composition has been found back on 14 February.
On that day, when staff of Charnwood Borough Council were reorganising a room, they found the hand-written score Carillon Chimes. There were also several letters from Elgar, as well as a film which may contain footage of the tower’s opening. The items had been donated to the Council in the 1950s. After that they were forgotten.
