Paul Williams is a composer of music or both the concert and theatre. Classical composer: much of the early work vocal; later more instrumental. Influences: a great admirer of Leonard Bernstein; George Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess; also Prokofiev; plus English composers like Tippett and Walton.
Eclectic and broad in taste: classical forms; dance; incidental music for theatre; sacred music.
Educated at Malmesbury Grammar School. Degree in music and Drama at the University of Hull. Student of Anthony Hedges for orchestration and composition. Studied singing with Annette Thompson in Reading.
