Marc-André Dalbavie was born in 1961 in Neuilly-sur-Seine. Recipient of a formation to the higher national Academy of music of Paris, where it followed the classes of Michel Philippot for composition, of Betsy Jolas and Claude Ballif for analysis, of Guy Reibel for electroacoustic and Marius Constant for orchestration, Marc-André Dalbavie also received teaching of Tristan Murail for musical data processing and of Pierre Boulez for direction of the orchestra. From 1985 to 1990, he took part in activities of the department of musical research in IRCAM, where he approached numerical synthesis and computer-assisted composition. His first work was performed at IRCAM: Diadems, the reason why he is known in the whole world, because this piece is regularly played at the time of the rounds of the Intercontemporain Unit. He resided in Berlin, from 1992 to 1993, with an invitation of the Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD) and, from 1995 to 1996, at the Médicis villa in Rome. He is professor of orchestration at the Academy of Paris since 1996. Regarded as a representative of the school of spectral music, he widens his artistic prospects with the Logos cycle, which radiates towards various fields of expression (text, theatre, ballet...).
