As “Batteur de mesure”, it was Jean-Fery Rebel’s taste to direct performances of operas and ballets including the première in 1721 of Destouches’ Ballet du Roy also called “Les Eléments”. André-Cardinal Destouches was Director of the Opéra and, as a composer a disciple of its first leading composer Lully.
Jean-Fery Rebel: Les Elémens;
André-Cardinal Destouches: Les Eléments.
He wrote a succession of operas, some of which were to remain popular for many years. Les Eléments was given a spectacular premiere, the young Louis XV himself appearing in the production and dancing several solos.
