MusicAtlas: Bayreuth

Not only Wagner!

In the 17th century the Nuremberg composers Staden and Krieger were active - in the 18th century margrave Friedrich and especially his consort Wilhelmine brought the musical life to a peak; Wilhelmine, a sister of Frederick the Great, composed an opera, Agenore - from 1769 the cultural life disintegrated until Wagner appeared.
