Reading out of the correspondence between Alma Mahler und Arnold Schönberg
Schönberg’s correspondence reveals a side of Alma Mahler which is scarcely familiar in a woman often reduced to the role of femme fatale. As a patroness, she campaigned for those she believed in. The well-known actress Sunnyi Melles reads from a selection of letters which recount emotional depth, private and artistic highs and lows and ultimately shared fortune, misfortune and mutual esteem in exile. The world-famous baritone Thomas Hampson evinces his reverence for Schönberg and Mahler in this specially arranged recital. In Johannes Marian, the sensitive accompanist, we also experience an incomparable interpreter of 20th century icons of the piano.
