MusicAtlas: Köln (Cologne)
Many traces of the glorious Cologne music history were wiped out in World War II: the inn Im heiligen Geist, where the Mozarts stayed in 1763; the Akademiesaal, where Beethoven made his début in 1778 (his father lied that he was six instead of eight); the Kasino, where Liszt, Clara Schumann and Burgmüller appeared; the predecessor of present-day opera theatre with important premières by Korngold, Zemlinsky and Schreker. Some plaques compensate for the loss of all composer's houses.
