Composers: dead or alive?

Dear [simplenews-subscriber:user:field-real-name] ([simplenews-subscriber:user:name]),

Deceased composers?

I am doing my best to keep an updated list of composers who passed away recently. However, it is very likely that I missed some names.

I created a list of composers who were born more than 80 years ago, but who do not have a date of death listed. Of course many of them may well be still alive. However, the list also includes many composers who were born much more than a hundred years ago!

Musicalics moves to new server

Dear [simplenews-subscriber:user:field-real-name] ([simplenews-subscriber:user:name]),

The Musicalics.com website will soon move to a new server. When exactly this will happen is not yet clear. Probably between about two and four weeks form now, depending on when I am ready configuring the new server.

Before I make the switch, I want to make sure that the new server, which also hosts several other websites and services, can safely take over all tasks of the current one.

New feature: add YouTube videos

Dear [simplenews-subscriber:user:field-real-name] ([simplenews-subscriber:user:name]),

Adding YouTube videos

Some time ago I added a new feature to Musicalics.com: you can now add links to related YouTube videos on composer and composition pages. There is however a maximum of six videos per page that you can add. I hope you find this feature useful.

To add YouTube links, log in to the website, go to the page you want to edit and then choose the "Edit" link.

Commenting composers

Dear [simplenews-subscriber:user:field-real-name] ([simplenews-subscriber:user:name]),

Add comments to the site

Did you know that you can leave comments on the composer and composition pages on Musicalics? This is useful if you want to add remarks that are of interest to other visitors, or if you have a question that someone else (including me) could answer.

MusicAtlas places for Austria

Dear [simplenews-subscriber:user:field-real-name] ([simplenews-subscriber:user:name]),

Adding MusicAtlas places for Austria

The MusicAtlas, which is part of Musicalics.com, already contains hundreds of musical places for many countries. However, one important country was still missing: Austria. This country, and especially its capital Vienna, has a rich musical history. On a recent visit to Vienna and Austria, I have seen quite some examples of this.

Musicalics radio interview

Dear [simplenews-subscriber:user:field-real-name] ([simplenews-subscriber:user:name]),

Radio interview on Dutch Concertzender

The Concertzender ("Concert Broadcaster"), which is the finest Dutch classical music radio station, has honored me with an invitation to appear as a guest in one of their programs. I will be interviewed about my website musicalics.com, the Classical Composers Database.

Composer calendar, nationality; your privacy

Dear [simplenews-subscriber:user:field-real-name] ([simplenews-subscriber:user:name]),

Composers by nationality

I recently added a new feature to the alphabetical composer listing. At the top of that listing you will find an option to select only composers with a certain nationality. Handy for those cases where you are looking for an overview of composers from a certain country. Composers with more than one nationality will be shown in all lists that apply.

Improved composer data, layout and speed

Dear [simplenews-subscriber:user:field-real-name] ([simplenews-subscriber:user:name]),

Website improvements

The information about composers on Musicalics.com is constantly being updated. In addition to that, over the last months I have also been working on improving the speed and layout of the site, and I think I made some good progress.

Add sounds and documents

Dear [simplenews-subscriber:user:field-real-name] ([simplenews-subscriber:user:name]),

Music samples and scores

I suspect that not many people already know that you can add sounds (like MP3 files) and documents (e.g. music scores) to Musicalics.com. This may be an interesting feature for you as composer or classical music enthusiast. Adding these files is possible on either a composition page (for directly files related to that composition) or on a composer page.
