A study by French musicologist Sylvie Bouissou has revealed that the famous canon "Frère Jacques" is very likely composed by Jean-Philippe Rameau. The melody is mentioned by a violinist who was a contemporary of Rameau as one of his melodies. Also the melody first appears in a collection that was edited by Rameau. The original words seem to have been a little different: Frère Jacques, Frère Jacques, Levez-vous! Levez-vous! Sonnez les matines, Sonnez les matines, Bing, Bong, Bong!"
