The Chiltern Camerata, Conductor Sam Laughton with Bene’t Coldstream (Evangelist) and the Camerata Consort of singers performs J.S. Bach’s Saint Matthew Passion
The Saint Matthew Passion by J.S. Bach is a monumental and inspiring work for solo voices, double orchestra and double chorus. It is regarded by many as the pinnacle of Bach's compositional output, if not of the entire Western musical canon, and is a dramatic and moving experience not to be missed.
We shall once again be combining with Mark Johnstone's choir, the Camerata Consort of Singers with whom we gave a memorable performance of the Bach Saint John Passion in 2011. As on that occasion, the role of the Evangelist will be sung by tenor Bene't Coldstream, for whom this will be his third appearance with the Camerata. The performance will be conducted by Sam Laughton.
To enhance the authenticity of our performance, the Camerata will be expanded by the inclusion of instruments such as oboes d'amore, a viola da gamba, chamber organ and harpsichord. The performance will be sung in German. A full text and English translation will be available in the £1 concert programme.
The performance will be given at All Saints' Parish Church, High Wycombe and starts at the earlier time of 6.30 pm. There will be an interval of 45 minutes, during which bread and cheese and beverages will be available for purchase for a modest charge.
Tickets (unreserved) are now available. All are priced at £12. Under 18s are entitled to free admission. Seats are unreserved
